Sineli Telecoms has launched a seasonal connectivity initiative aimed at easing mobile data challenges faced by travellers during the December peak travel period, widely referred to as Detty December.

The initiative comes as international travel volumes surge during the festive season, a time when many travellers encounter connectivity difficulties immediately upon arrival. Common challenges include high roaming charges, unreliable public Wi-Fi, and delays associated with purchasing physical SIM cards.

According to the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sineli Telecoms, Ayo Afonja, the initiative was designed to respond to a recurring pain point within the global travel ecosystem.

“December is one of the busiest travel periods globally, and it consistently exposes how difficult it can be for travellers to stay connected immediately after landing,” Afonja said. “Reliable connectivity has become a basic travel expectation, yet it is still not guaranteed in many destinations.”

As part of the Detty December initiative, Sineli Telecoms provided complimentary 1GB eSIM data packages to up to 100 travellers at no cost. This allowed recipients to access mobile data instantly upon arrival, without relying on roaming plans or purchasing physical SIM cards.

The service was delivered using eSIM technology, which enables digital activation of mobile data, often before departure. At the time of the initiative, Sineli Telecoms supported connectivity in more than 170 countries, allowing travellers to remain connected across multiple destinations through a single digital solution.

Afonja explained that the initiative was intended as a practical response to seasonal travel challenges rather than a traditional marketing effort.

“If we can remove even one point of friction during peak travel, it significantly improves the overall travel experience,” he added.

The initiative reflects a broader shift within the travel-tech sector, where mobile connectivity is increasingly regarded as essential travel infrastructure rather than an optional service.

Jubril Arogundade: “I Resigned, I Was Not Terminated” — Former CIG Motors Executive Clarifies Exit

Jubril Arogundade, a former senior executive of CIG Motors, has issued a formal clarification regarding the circumstances surrounding his departure from the company, following recent public statements and media reports that inaccurately portrayed his exit as a termination.

Mr. Arogundade stated that he voluntarily resigned from his position on December 2, 2025, in full compliance with his contractual obligations and established internal procedures. According to him, his resignation was formally submitted in writing, duly acknowledged by the company’s management, and accompanied by an agreed notice period and exit timeline.

He emphasised that any public representation of his departure as a termination is factually incorrect and does not reflect the true sequence of events.

“I resigned from my position at CIG Motors after careful reflection and in line with due process,” Arogundade said. “It is therefore deeply concerning that my voluntary exit has been publicly mischaracterised. I believe strongly in transparency and professionalism, and I am compelled to correct the record.”

Reasons for Resignation

Arogundade explained that his decision to resign was informed by serious and long-standing internal concerns relating to corporate governance, financial discipline and regulatory compliance within the organisation. He noted that over an extended period, he raised these concerns through appropriate internal channels, consistent with his responsibilities as a senior executive and his commitment to ethical business practices.

Among the key issues he cited were persistent corporate governance gaps, including the absence of adequate internal controls and oversight mechanisms; a growing and unsustainable debt profile driven by repeated borrowing without corresponding long-term financial structuring; and ongoing regulatory and compliance challenges, including unresolved tax and statutory obligations.

He maintained that his decision to step away was guided by principle and professional responsibility, particularly in circumstances where continued association could conflict with his personal values and standards of corporate accountability.

“As a Nigerian professional, I take governance, compliance and institutional responsibility very seriously,” he said. “When internal efforts to address these matters did not yield the necessary corrective action, I chose to resign rather than compromise on standards that I believe are fundamental to sustainable business.”

Response to Allegations

Responding to allegations circulating in the public space, Arogundade categorically denied any claims of financial impropriety or misconduct. He stated that he has nothing to hide and welcomes any lawful, independent and objective review of his conduct during his tenure at the company.

He further clarified that, contrary to public insinuations, he has not been contacted by any law enforcement or regulatory agency in relation to the allegations, adding that he remains fully available to cooperate should any legitimate inquiry arise.

“I have conducted myself with integrity throughout my career,” he said. “I am confident that any objective review will affirm this.”
