Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru says he is determined to achieve his biggest career dream, representing the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the FIFA World Cup.

Dele-Bashiru, a 24-year-old Super Eagles midfielder, has enjoyed a steady rise in his career. He spent three years at English Championship side, Sheffield Wednesday before moving to Turkey with Hatayspor in 2023.

After just one season in the Super Lig, he sealed a move to Serie A side Lazio, where he featured in the UEFA Europa League last season. Now, the midfielder has set his sights on the football’s biggest tournament.

“The World Cup, that’s the biggest stage for a footballer in your career, especially playing for your country,” Dele-Bashiru told reporters in Uyo, when he was asked about his biggest dream.

While Dele-Bashiru dreams of the tournament, his teammates are firmly focused on the immediate task, defeating Rwanda in Saturday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye, who returns to the squad after missing the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, has issued a bold declaration ahead of the clash.

“We are ready for Rwanda, they must fall. Everybody is ready for the game. We know what’s at stake, and we can’t play with this opportunity,” Adeleye said.

Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw by Zimbabwe in their last home qualifier. With Nigeria sitting in the 4th place in Group C, the pressure is mounting on the three-time African champions to deliver.
