The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has announced that the party will pursue a consensus-based approach in selecting its presidential candidate for 2027.

Naija News reports that Abdullahi made the party’s position known on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television.

According to the ADC spokesman, the party would opt for a competitive primary election if those seeking the party’s presidential ticket fail to reach a consensus.

According to the ADC chieftain, the party would not be distracted by zoning debates or early presidential declarations by members, adding that the party’s priority is building robust structures nationwide.

He said, “Atiku says he will run, Obi says he will run, Amaechi says he will run, that does not stop anyone else. What we are committed to is a level playing ground. We will pursue consensus, and if that fails, we will hold competitive primaries.

“For us, our focus now is building a fighting structure, not rushing into zoning conversations.”

Recall that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have zoned their presidential tickets to the southern part of the country ahead of the 2027 elections, and many people are expecting the position of ADC on the presidential ticket.
