The African Democratic Congress (ADC) spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, has mocked President Bola Tinubu over his government’s fresh plan to secure a $1.75 billion loan from the World Bank.
Naija News reports that Abdullahi, in a post via 𝕏 on Tuesday, recalled that Tinubu had recently declared that Nigeria had met its revenue target and would no longer need to borrow.
He also criticised the House of Representatives Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, who initially spoke against the loans but later backtracked, stressing that he is making Tinubu look like a liar.
According to him, Abbas fears Tinubu more than his conscience.
He said, “But no sooner had you left the country than some overzealous official announced your government’s plans to borrow another $1.75 billion from the World Bank, thereby making you look like a liar.
“Obviously, he fears you more than he fears for his conscience.”
Abdullahi further took a swipe at President Tinubu, saying, “Sorry to disturb you, Sir. Continue to enjoy your well-deserved holidays.”
Recall that Abba, on Monday, while presenting a speech at the West Africa Association of Public Accounts Committees conference, expressed concerns that Nigeria’s debt had reached a critical point and called for urgent reforms in borrowing practices and oversight.
