The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, has lost his mother, Mama Lydia Yilwatda.
Naija News learnt that she passed away on Sunday morning at the Jos University Teaching Hospital at the age of 83.
The APC State Publicity Secretary in Plateau, Shittu Bamaiyi, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Jos.
He described the late Mama Lydia as “a devoted Christian, a virtuous woman leader, and a pillar of the Church of Christ in Nations.”
According to him, “The All Progressives Congress in Plateau State received with shock the sad news of the death of the mother of its National Chairman, Mama Lydia Yilwatda. Her death is not only a personal loss to the National Chairman but also to the entire APC family in Plateau State and the country at large.”
The statement noted that Mama Lydia, alongside her late husband, Reverend Toma Goshewe Yilwatda, contributed immensely to the growth of the Church of Christ in Nations in Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Plateau states.
Bamaiyi added that her demise was painful as she passed on at a time when her counsel and prayers were most needed by her family and the party’s national leader.
The APC described Mama Lydia’s life as one marked by faith and service, stressing that her accomplishments live on through her children.
“The consoling record is that the deceased left behind an indelible and accomplished legacy, which is manifested in her children. Surely, her demise is a great loss to the Church, the Women’s Fellowship, and Plateau State at large,” the statement read.
While commiserating with Prof. Yilwatda and his family, the party prayed for God’s comfort.
“We share with Professor Yilwatda in his moment of grief, and the Party prays God to grant the late Mama’s soul eternal rest,” the statement added.
