Former Chairman of Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign council in Abia State, Charles Ogbonnaya, has appealed to the people of southern Nigeria to support the second term of President Bola Tinubu.
He stated that South should be allowed to complete their term in power before power rotates back to the North in 2031.
Speaking via a statement on Thursday, the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Abia State argued that equity and fairness demanded that the South be allowed to serve its full eight years, just as the North did under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Ogbonnaya particularly called on the South-East and South-South to collaborate with the South-West to ensure Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) expressed concern that the South has often failed to maintain a united front during elections, unlike the North.
“I had once raised the alarm that some of us in the South are allowing ourselves to be manipulated to work against our own interest.
“It is time we see through this and form a common front,” Ogbonnaya said.
Meanwhile, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged residents of Abuja to rally behind leaders who have demonstrated loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, insisting that his support will go only to those who align with the President’s agenda.
Naija News reports that Wike made the remarks on Thursday during the flag-off of Lot 2 of the Water Supply Project in Karu, where he praised former Senator representing the FCT, Philip Aduda, and the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, for their developmental strides.
“There is a road where you said is about 2km, is it not? Consider it done. You know, one thing about government and politics: support those who have capacity to bring something to the people. Support those that government will listen to,” Wike said.
The minister promised to construct a 2km road in Karu, based on Aduda’s request, while highlighting Maikalangu’s record of attracting government projects to his council.
“For me, I’m here to talk about those who have access to government and bring something to the people. The chairman has access to us. Anything he tells us, we will do.
“This is the only man I know. If he wins as chairman of AMAC, we will give him whatever he wants. I don’t know the party he belongs to. But I know that he supports Tinubu. Anybody who supports Tinubu, I will support him,” the former Rivers State Governor declared.
Wike further listed projects delivered through Maikalangu’s efforts, including the Saburi Road, Kabusa-Takushere Road, Deidei Road, and other rehabilitated infrastructure.
The FCT Minister berated previous administrations for neglecting communities in Karu, particularly in terms of water supply, stressing that President Tinubu had fulfilled his promise of providing potable water to satellite towns.
“We have had a government who stayed here for five years, isn’t that correct? We have had a government who stayed here for eight years too, is that correct? Has any government come to say, look, we will provide you water?
“Did this government promise it will give you water? Have we come now to give you water? So, you believe you have a covenant with this government. And the covenant is like somebody said: agreement is agreement. The people of Karu will readily remember the government that remembers them,” Wike said.
