Cardiff City have completed the signing of Nigerian international defender, Gabriel Osho, from French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
Gabriel Osho, 27, is the second addition of the summer for League One leaders, who are undergoing a squad rebuild under newly appointed manager Brian Barry-Murphy.
Osho, well known to English fans for his time at Luton Town, played a key role in the Hatters’ promotion to the Premier League in the 2022/23 season. He went on to score twice in 21 top-flight appearances before moving to France in July 2024.
Last season, he featured 20 times for Auxerre, scoring once and receiving a red card, while also starting both of their opening Ligue 1 games this term against Lorient and Nice.
Speaking after sealing the move, Osho said the chance to reunite with Barry-Murphy was a decisive factor in his return to English football.
“It’s been a long time in the works, so to finally be here at the stadium and in the city has been good. I’m buzzing to get going,” he told the club’s website.
“Brian played a big part. It’s always important for the player to have a good relationship with the manager. I had a really good time at Rochdale, and the connection I built with Brian and the staff there was pretty amazing.”
Born in Reading, Osho began his career at his hometown club and gained experience on loan at Bristol Rovers, Yeovil Town, and Rochdale, where he first worked under Barry-Murphy. He also holds two international caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Cardiff’s other incoming signing this summer is Copenhagen goalkeeper Nathan Trott, who joined on loan. Note that the side lost 11 senior players after their relegation from the Championship last season.
