The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Chadian referee Alhadji Allaou Mahamat to officiate Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash against Rwanda in Uyo.
Mahamat will be assisted by fellow countrymen Bogollah Issa (Assistant Referee One), Moussa Hafiz (Assistant Referee Two), and Abdelkerim Ousmane (Fourth Official). Egyptian Abdelsalam Mahmoud will serve as referee assessor, while Bakary Jammeh from The Gambia has been named match commissioner.
The fixture, billed for Saturday, September 6, will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, with kickoff set for 5 p.m. Nigerian time.
The Super Eagles go into the tie on the back of a 2-0 victory over the Amavubi in March at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali.
However, Nigeria’s preparations have been hit by a setback as Sevilla striker Jerome Akor Adams has been ruled out of the doubleheader against Rwanda and South Africa.
The 25-year-old forward picked up a muscle injury to his left thigh during Sevilla’s 2-0 defeat to Getafe last weekend. His Spanish club confirmed on Wednesday that he will also sit out their upcoming LaLiga game against Girona.
Adams, who earned his maiden Super Eagles call-up only last week, was included in Jose Peseiro’s provisional squad for the qualifiers. But the injury has dashed hopes of seeing the former Montpellier man make his international debut.
Since joining Sevilla in January, Adams has endured an injury-plagued spell, limiting his impact in LaLiga. His absence means Nigeria will look elsewhere for attacking options as they aim to strengthen their position in the qualifying race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Earlier, Naija News reported that the Super Eagles may go into the clash without the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali who is currently battling with fitness issues.
