Chelsea are set for another major shake-up in attack with Nicolas Jackson on the verge of joining Bayern Munich, while Christopher Nkunku has sealed a permanent switch to AC Milan.
Nkunku, 27, has signed a five-year deal with the Serie A giants after Milan agreed a £36m fee with Chelsea.
The French forward’s exit brings an end to his two-year stint at Stamford Bridge, where he registered 18 goals and five assists in 62 appearances.
He was a pivotal figure in Chelsea’s Club World Cup and Conference League triumphs last season, but will now begin a fresh chapter in Italy.
Meanwhile, Jackson is close to completing a loan move to Bayern Munich. The 24-year-old Senegal international has already agreed a pre-contract with the Bundesliga champions and has been permitted to travel to Germany to finalise the deal.
Bayern will pay Chelsea an initial £13 million loan fee, with an option to buy set at £56.2 million. A sell-on clause has also been included in the agreement.
The double departure adds to Chelsea’s already impressive transfer sales this summer. The club have raised close to £309m, including add-ons, while spending around £277m on new arrivals. The sales will help balance the books after UEFA hit the Blues with a €31m fine for breaching financial regulations.
Nkunku and Jackson both joined Chelsea in 2023 but have struggled for consistent minutes this season. The arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap have pushed them further down the pecking order, leaving their futures in doubt.
For Jackson, the numbers have been a mixed bag. He has 24 goals in 65 Premier League appearances, but his finishing has come under scrutiny.
According to Opta, he has underperformed his expected goals tally by seven over the past two seasons and converted just 29% of what are considered ‘big chances’.
The Senegalese striker has not featured for Chelsea since a substitute appearance in the Club World Cup semi-final win over Fluminense in July. He was an unused substitute in the final against Paris Saint-Germain and has missed the opening two Premier League games, a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace and a 5-1 win over West Ham.
