Manchester City have been dealt a fresh injury scare ahead of Sunday’s high-profile Premier League derby against Manchester United, after striker Omar Marmoush picked up a knee problem while on international duty.
Marmoush, 26, was forced off just nine minutes into Egypt’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso on Tuesday.
The forward sustained a bruised knee ligament following a heavy tackle in the fourth minute. Though he initially attempted to carry on, he was substituted minutes later.
The Egyptian Football Association later confirmed the diagnosis, saying: “Omar Marmoush has suffered a bruised knee ligament and will be further assessed by Manchester City’s medical team.”
Naija News reports that with the injury coming days before City host United at the Etihad Stadium, doubts remain over Marmoush’s availability.
The Egyptian forward, who joined City in the summer, has become an important option in Pep Guardiola’s attack and will now race against time to prove his fitness.
City fans will be anxiously awaiting updates from the club’s doctors ahead of the weekend fixture.
