Fermin Lopez says his loyalty to Barcelona and dream of making it big at Camp Nou were the reasons he rejected Chelsea’s offer this summer.
Fermin Lopez, who joined Barça’s academy at the age of 12, confirmed that although Chelsea showed strong interest, his heart was always set on continuing with the Spanish giants.
“The Chelsea offer? In the end, my priority has always been to stay at Barça,” Lopez told TouchlineX. “I came here when I was 12 years old. It’s always nice to have another club interested in you, but I always had the idea of continuing at Barça and succeeding here.”
The 21-year-old is tied to Barcelona until 2029 and remains a key part of Hansi Flick’s long-term project.
Meanwhile, Antony, who left Manchester United permanently on deadline day, said his decision to reject Bayern Munich was about honouring his commitment to Betis.
The Spanish club secured his signature in a £21.65 million deal after a successful loan spell.
“I spoke with Bayern, I don’t know if it [the salary offer] was €7 million, but I said I had Betis’ word and that it was 95% closed and that I would respect my word,” Antony told Cadena COPE.
“I feel calm about making this decision because I am very happy here. More than five teams called me.”
The 25-year-old winger was unveiled in Seville on Tuesday and will now look to rebuild his career in La Liga after a mixed spell at Old Trafford.
