Veteran Nigerian comedian, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba, has reacted to the killing of American conservative activist, Charlie Kirk.
Naija News reports that the comedian spoke in a video on Instagram where he described the incident as tragic and shared his personal thoughts about the case.
He said that the situation could have caused deeper racial tensions if the suspect had been a person of colour.
“I can’t put into words how relieved I was when I found out the suspect wasn’t Black. It would have been worse,” the comedian said.
The killing has drawn global attention since authorities named the suspect as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah.
Reports indicate that Robinson, though registered as a nonpartisan voter, came from a Republican, pro-gun family and had shown growing political interest in recent years.
He was said to have criticized Kirk during family discussions, accusing him of spreading division.
Robinson, who had an ACT score of 34, briefly studied at Utah State University in 2021 on a scholarship but dropped out after just one semester.
In other news, American rapper, Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., popularly known as DDG, has announced plans to leave Los Angeles for Lagos, Nigeria.
Naija News reports that the development comes as he continues a custody battle with his former partner, actress and singer Halle Bailey, over their 17-month-old son, Halo.
