Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has explained why he has not been attending church for more than ten years.
Naija News reports that he revealed that his decision began in 2013 after an experience that left him uncomfortable with the way church activities were handled.
The actor shared his story on the Honest Bunch Podcast, where he recalled how a pastor once instructed him to stop accepting work on Sundays.
He said that the demand interfered with his career and left him questioning the balance between faith and personal life.
According to him, the event made him decide to step away from regular church attendance.
Solade also dismissed the idea that a person’s life would fall apart without going to church.
He explained that his life has remained peaceful and productive since he left, adding that he now has more time to focus on his work and family without constant interruptions from church programs.
He further stated that the pressure of church committees and frequent commitments made it hard for him to give attention to his acting career.
He said: “If you see me in a church it’s either we are filming… Something happened in my church, I got into the church with my wife that year, 2013. I’ve been told in the church to tell producers not to call me for work on Sundays and I sepe’d for the Pastor. It is from that thing that you said I shouldn’t do on Sunday that I put hand in my pocket and I drop here.
“A notion that if you don’t attend church, one’s life will nosedive, I have not seen anything change. Rather, I have peace, I do well, because everyday of my life when I was going to church, I got messages, all sort of disturbances.
“If you are not invited to one committee… When will I have time to work?”
