The Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to initiate infrastructural development in the Northeast.
Naija News reports that Ndume’s appeal comes amid the visit of the Northeast governors to Tinubu on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In a statement signed and issued to journalists on Friday, Ndume lamented over the insurgency which has ravaged the Northeast region.
He appealed to Tinubu to include Special Priority Projects aimed at developing the Northeast in the 2025 supplementary budget and the 2026 budget proposal.
According to Ndume, such a measure would address the crippling social and infrastructural challenges confronting the Northeast.
He said: “Fifteen years down the line, there hasn’t been any meaningful infrastructural development in the Northeast as it has been ravaged by the insurgents.
“In view of this, I suggest that the present administration should give priority to the region and make provision for its urgent infrastructural needs in the 2025 supplementary budget.”
Meanwhile, Ndume has cautioned against profiling victims of Boko Haram attacks along religious lines, stressing that the terror group targets Muslims, Christians, and even non-believers indiscriminately.
Ndume stated this in Abuja on Wednesday while reacting to the killing of five farmers over the weekend in Ngoshe village, Gwoza Local Government Area, and Mussa community in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to reports, two Muslims were killed in Ngoshe, while three Christians were murdered in Mussa the following day. The insurgents also razed several houses during the coordinated assaults.
