United States President, Donald Trump, on Friday, announced that the suspect in the killing of right-wing youth leader, Charlie Kirk, had been taken into custody after a massive manhunt involving more than 20 law enforcement agencies.
Trump disclosed during a live Fox News interview, “Somebody very close to him turned him in.
“The person was involved with law enforcement, but was a person of faith, a minister, and brought him to a US Marshal who was fantastic. They drove into the police headquarters, and he’s there now. We have the person that we think is the person we’re looking for.”
Kirk, 31, was shot dead on Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University. Police said the assailant fired a single round from a rooftop 200 yards away, striking him in the neck.
Investigators revealed that the shooter escaped across a roof before vanishing into nearby woods, where a high-powered bolt-action rifle was later recovered.
Images released by the FBI on Thursday showed the suspect in Converse shoes, a black baseball cap, dark sunglasses, and jeans with a long-sleeved shirt featuring an American flag design.
Political Shockwaves And State Response
Utah Governor, Spencer Cox, has vowed that the state will pursue the death penalty in the case.
Vice President, JD Vance, personally oversaw the return of Kirk’s body to Phoenix, Arizona, transporting his coffin aboard Air Force 2. Footage showed Vance placing his hands on the casket as it was carried off the plane.
The killing has shaken conservative America. Supporters hailed Kirk as a “martyr” for right-wing ideals, recalling his role in co-founding Turning Point USA in 2012, a movement that gave young conservatives a strong political voice.
At Orem Park, hundreds of supporters wearing MAGA caps and waving American flags gathered for a vigil, where prayers were said and a moment of silence held.
Kirk, a father of two, was known for using his massive audiences on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube to champion anti-immigration policies, Christianity, and gun rights, often posting clips of fiery exchanges during his college debates.
