The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described its sweeping victories in Saturday’s legislative by-elections as a resounding endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and a reaffirmation of the party’s dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC spokesman in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, said in a statement on Sunday, that the outcome of the polls had re-energised and refocused the ruling party for future contests.
“With APC dominance reaffirmed, the stage is set for a grand 2027 showdown,” Oladejo declared.
Naija News reports that the APC chieftain noted that the elections marked the first major test of the party under its new national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and the results were nothing short of a landmark.
He said the APC’s victory in 12 of the 16 contested seats consolidated its dominance and reflected the electorate’s confidence in Tinubu’s leadership.
“From North to South, Nigerians have spoken clearly through the ballot box,” he said.
The wins included the Edo Central senatorial seat, House of Representatives seats in Kaduna, Jigawa, Ogun, and Edo, as well as state assembly seats across several states.
Oladejo argued that the outcome was proof that despite economic challenges and opposition propaganda, the APC remained the party of choice for Nigerians.
“These by-election results are a direct endorsement of this administration’s focus on economic stabilisation, tackling insecurity, strengthening infrastructure, and bold fiscal reforms,” he said.
According to him, while critics had questioned Tinubu’s popularity, “the outcome of these by-elections served as a referendum” that showed people’s confidence in his long-term vision for a prosperous Nigeria.
Opposition Reduced To Regional Strongholds
Oladejo added that the results showed the declining strength of opposition parties. “The Labour Party, which surged on social media in 2023, failed to win a single seat,” he said.
He noted that the PDP secured only one seat in Oyo, while the NNPP retained a single constituency in Kano.
“APGA, confined largely to the Southeast, won two seats in Anambra. But these shifts did not alter the larger picture: APC remains dominant,” he stressed.
The spokesman attributed the sweeping win to Yilwatda’s leadership, which he described as strategic, disciplined, and visionary.
“These victories are more than statistics; they symbolise the trust Nigerians have placed in Tinubu’s administration,” Oladejo said.
He added, “When 2027 comes, Nigerians will remember who stood firm in uncertainty, who led with courage, and who delivered results. The journey continues, and the future looks brighter than ever. The Progressives have spoken. Nigeria is listening.”
