Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, has urged Nigerians not to personalise their grievances against President Bola Tinubu, warning that hatred of individuals often leads to poor leadership choices.
Amadi said critics should focus on rejecting the President’s politics and policies rather than demonising him as a person.
Naija News reports that the public affairs analyst stated this in a post on his 𝕏 handle on Tuesday, noting that it would be irrational to hate Tinubu as an individual only to replace him with another leader cut from the same cloth.
“There is no sense in hating Tinubu as a person and bringing someone who is as heinous in politics and governance as him. That is what we did against @GEJonathan,” Amadi wrote.
He recalled how hatred for former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 contributed to his removal, which eventually paved the way for a government that, in his view, worsened Nigeria’s situation.
“Hatred for Jonathan made us take out a government that was doing well and brought a terrible one. If we wanted to improve on Jonathan, we could have brought someone who is better in the areas where he was weak. Or improved Jonathan,” he added.
Amadi stressed that what Nigerians need is not emotional antagonism but rational, honest opposition that seeks a fundamental departure from Tinubu’s style of politics.
“Hate Tinubu’s politics & policies and bring someone who is very different from him. That is what is rational & honest,” he said.
According to him, the focus of the opposition and the public should be on demanding governance reforms, not trading personal hatred, which he warned could once again lead the country into deeper crises.
