Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero has committed his long-term future to the club after signing a new four-year contract that keeps him in north London until 2029.
Cristian Romero, 27, joined Spurs from Atalanta in 2021, initially on loan before making the switch permanent.
Since then, he has racked up 126 appearances, scored eight goals, and famously led the side to Europa League glory last season, ending the club’s 17-year wait for silverware with a win over Manchester United in the final.
Romero, who had been linked with Atletico Madrid during the summer, was recently appointed captain by new boss Thomas Frank. His new deal follows right-back Djed Spence’s contract extension, as Spurs look to secure key players ahead of the new campaign.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth have wrapped up a deal for Liverpool’s teenage winger Ben Doak in a transfer worth an initial £20m plus £5m in add-ons.
The 19-year-old Scotland international is expected to finalize his move within 24 hours, subject to paperwork and medicals.
Doak, who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, was left out of Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Bournemouth on Friday night as negotiations accelerated.
The move comes amid a busy summer for the Cherries, who sold Dango Ouattara to Brentford for £42.5m and lost several defenders to European giants.
Manager Andoni Iraola admitted his squad is “not where they want to be” but promised “important movements” before the window shuts.
Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest have secured Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo on a five-year deal for a reported £26m.
The French forward, who scored 18 times last season, said: “I can’t wait to play in the Premier League and to play at the City Ground. I watched games from last season and it’s clear the fans create a beautiful atmosphere.”
Kalimuendo’s arrival adds firepower to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side as they prepare for a Europa League campaign.
In Italy, AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare confirmed the club’s interest in Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund, while in England, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak could miss Tuesday’s PFA Awards amid speculation linking him with Liverpool.
