Nigerian actor Jim Iyke has declared that he will never play gay roles in any Nollywood production.
Naija News reports that the thespian made it clear that such roles are not for him and that he would never accept scripts that require him to portray a gay character.
He explained that he cannot wear feminine clothing or take on characters that do not align with his personal values.
While acknowledging that there is a community that relates to such themes, he stressed that his decision is final and not open to compromise.
Jim Iyke also recounted how he once received a script along that line from a producer but immediately rejected it.
According to him, many filmmakers try to reach a wider audience by adding sensitive topics into their stories, yet he chooses to stay away from them.
He said: “I can’t roll with the gay guys, I’m sorry. I can’t wear skirt for nobody, I’m sorry. I know there’s a whole community, you know. I salute you guys, to each his own. We’re too much mill to get it twisted, yeah. The last producer that sent me his script along that line… the last… I located that guy with a machete. Immediately he saw me, he took off. I said, keep running, keep running, keep running. So, they’re trying to reach a wider spectrum of audience and, of course, the community in question will not, you know, okay or give them a nod of approval if you don’t touch on subjects that are sensitive to them.”
