Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, insists he intends to remain in charge beyond the international break despite mounting speculation over his future.
United’s embarrassing Carabao Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town in midweek has left the Portuguese coach facing intense scrutiny ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Burnley at Old Trafford.
When pressed on Friday about the possibility of being sacked during the international break, Amorim was candid about the uncertainty.
“I don’t know what is going to happen,” he admitted. “That is my idea [to continue] but I’m not going to promise you nothing [about] what the future will be. But I am the manager of Manchester United and I think that is not going to change.”
Meanwhile, the transfer drama surrounding winger Antony has taken another twist. Spanish club Real Betis have confirmed they have withdrawn their interest in the Brazilian.
The LaLiga outfit had been exploring a move but cited financial constraints as the stumbling block.
“There is no agreement for Antony and we have withdrawn the offer,” the club said in a statement on Friday. “We can’t afford the fee and the amounts that Manchester United must instead pay the player before the transfer.”
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also reported that negotiations had stalled with “no progress” made between the two clubs.
