A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and current Director of Finance at Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, has declared that no level of blackmail or political scheming will stop President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from winning a second term in 2027.
Naija News reports that Kwankwaso stated this while reacting to recent incidents of political violence, including the attack on the convoy of former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, in Kebbi and the disruption of a meeting of African Democratic Congress (ADC) leaders in Kaduna.
On Monday, suspected thugs attacked Malami’s convoy in Birnin Kebbi, vandalising about 10 vehicles and injuring supporters. Similarly, on Sunday, thugs disrupted an ADC stakeholders’ meeting at NUT Endwell Hotel in Kaduna metropolis, smashing window glasses and throwing chairs at participants.
Kwankwaso, however, insisted that the ruling APC had no hand in the violence, describing the incidents as politically motivated plots to smear Tinubu’s image ahead of 2027.
“These accusations of thug attacks on opposition leaders being thrown at the APC are but orchestrated plans to blackmail the president ahead of the 2027 election,” he said.
The APC stalwart maintained that Tinubu’s performance in office would speak for him at the polls.
Kwankwaso further stated, “There were many presidents from northern Nigeria before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Recently, Buhari did eight years; but of a sudden people are talking about bastardizing the north. We all know what happened under Buhari.
“The security under Tinubu is fast improving. The Kaduna-Abuja expressway is safe. Bandits in northwestern states are on the run. Boko Haram activities have been reduced in the north-east. Thanks to the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who is unrelenting.”
Kwankwaso also dismissed claims that the Tinubu administration had sidelined the North, pointing to appointments and projects in the region.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s scorecard will always speak for him. There are many infrastructural projects going on in various parts of the northern region. Northerners have been appointed into key positions, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, are from the north, to mention but a few,” he added.
