Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will intensify their preparations for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup with two high-profile friendlies against Chile and Australia.
Naija News reports that the Flying Eagles departed Abuja on Sunday night for Chile, where they will round off their final training camp.
Aliyu Zubairu’s boys are billed to take on Chile in their first warm-up game on Saturday at a venue yet to be confirmed, before squaring up against Australia next Tuesday.
Zubairu, who officially named his final 21-man squad for the tournament, expressed confidence in the team’s readiness.
“We have had a solid preparation in Abuja and now we want to test ourselves against strong opposition before the World Cup kicks off,” he said.
The squad features a blend of experience and fresh talent. Ten players from the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations were retained, including Ebenezer Harcourt, Daniel Bameyi, Odinaka Okoro, and Auwal Ibrahim. Rising prospects such as Daniel Daga and Nasiru Salihu also made the cut as Nigeria looks to strike the right balance in midfield and attack.
The Flying Eagles have been placed in Group F of the World Cup, where they will battle Norway, Colombia, and Saudi Arabia. The tournament promises to be a stern test, but the Nigerian side will be banking on their pedigree at the youth level to make a deep run.
