The political future of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, remains uncertain as both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) intensify efforts to secure his loyalty ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reacting to reports of alleged moves by the APC to woo Fubara, Chairman of the PDP Zonal Caretaker Committee (South-South), Emma Ogidi, in an interview with Vanguard, said the ruling party at the centre had failed Nigerians and should not be an option for the governor.
“Defection is not new in our politics, but the decision is his to make. We pray he doesn’t fall for it because the APC is a failed government, and we will not encourage him to join them. When I see him, I will tell him personally that APC has failed,” Ogidi said in Abuja on Wednesday.
Ogidi, who also expressed gratitude for Fubara’s safe return after months of political turmoil, urged that the governor be given space to concentrate on governance.
He said, “When someone returns safely, you are always happy. We thank God for his life, especially considering all the embarrassment he has faced.
“This is a man who only just came back six months ago. He needs time to settle down and focus on his work. If they are already trying to drag him over to their side so soon, it is simply unreasonable.”
Fubara’s political trajectory has been the subject of heightened speculation following the end of emergency rule in Rivers State. Both the PDP and APC are keen to secure his loyalty as the battle lines for 2027 gradually take shape.
