Nigerian chess guru Tunde Onakoya has revealed that he is stepping away from 𝕏 (Twitter) to protect his peace of mind.
Naija News reports that the founder of Chess in Slums Africa explained that the platform has become too draining for him and that constant negativity online has taken a toll on his emotions.
Onakoya, who is celebrated for using chess to create opportunities for children living in disadvantaged communities, made the decision known through a post to his followers on Thursday night.
He explained that the online space has become heavy and that he needs time away to focus on his mental and emotional health.
Although he will no longer be active on 𝕏 for now, Onakoya assured that he can still be reached through email and that he intends to keep sharing updates on Instagram.
He said: “This place has grown too heavy for me. As an empath, I feel too much darkness in the world pressing in. I’ll be stepping away for a while as I must guard my heart.
“If it’s important, shoot me an email: tunde@chessinslumsafrica.com. I’ll continue to share my thoughts on Instagram.”
