Actor Yemi Solade has expressed sadness over the low turnout of Nollywood stars at the burial of veteran actor Segun Remi, popularly known as Chief Kanran.
Naija News reports that the late actor, who passed away on August 15 at the age of 70, was laid to rest on Friday at his residence in Beckley Estate, Abule Egba, Lagos.
His funeral rites included a wake-keep and service of songs on Thursday, followed by the burial the next day.
During the ceremonies, emotions ran high as Chief Kanran’s elder sister wept uncontrollably and almost collapsed on seeing his remains in the coffin.
Despite the touching scenes, only a few actors were reportedly present to honour him.
Solade took to Instagram on Saturday, sharing a photo of the late actor with a message pointing to the poor attendance of colleagues at the funeral.
He said that Chief Kanran’s contributions to the film industry deserved more recognition, stressing that the absence of many Nollywood stars was disheartening.
He wrote: “What actor Segun Remi (Chief Kanran)’s funeral taught me. It taught me that as long as one is NOT materially blessed, one is a NOBODY in Nigeria .
“WHERE WERE THE MOVIE STARS DURING HIS FUNERAL ACTIVITIES?
“IT’S VERY SAD AND APPALLING…. NOT EVEN AT THE SERVICE OF SONGS / ARTISTS NIGHT.
“WELL, THE FEW OF US WHO WERE ON GROUND TO CELEBRATE HIS LIFE AND TIME…. I HOPE YOU HAVE PICKED A LESSON OR TWO. FOOD FOR THOUGHT!”
