The District Head of Kabo and traditional title holder of Sarkin Gabas in Kano State, Alhaji Idris Dankabo, has passed away.
The 48-year-old traditional ruler reportedly died on Thursday night following a ghastly motor accident in Kano metropolis.
The Kano Emirate Council confirmed the passing of Dankabo in a statement shared on its official Facebook page, Sanusi Dynasty.
The council described his death as a huge loss to the Emirate and the people of Kano.
Funeral prayers for the late traditional ruler will be held today (Friday) at 10 a.m. at the Kano Emir’s Palace, where the Emir is expected to lead the rites.
Dankabo is survived by a wife and two children.
The late Sarkin Gabas was the eldest son of the late Alhaji Muhammad Adamu Dankabo, Chairman of the defunct Kabo Air and Jarma of Kano.
The Dankabo family is widely regarded as one of Kano’s most influential, with the patriarch playing key roles in business, politics, and philanthropy.
Kabo Air, established in 1980, operated domestic, regional, and international flights before scaling down in the 2000s to focus mainly on charter and Hajj services.
Naija News reports that the title of Sarkin Gabas, held by the late Idris Dankabo, is one of the senior positions within the Kano Emirate hierarchy, carrying cultural and administrative responsibilities.
His sudden death at a relatively young age will create a gap in the traditional leadership of the emirate, one of the most influential institutions in Northern Nigeria.
