Kylian Mbappe has added another milestone to his glittering career, moving into joint-sixth place on the UEFA Champions League all-time scorers list.
The French forward struck twice in Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Marseille at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night, sealing three points for Los Blancos and etching his name further into European football history.
Before kick-off, Kylian Mbappe had 55 goals in the competition. By full-time, he had joined Muller in sixth place on the all-time scoring list with 57 goals.
Only five players now sit ahead of him: Cristiano Ronaldo with an unmatched 140 goals, Lionel Messi on 129, Robert Lewandowski with 105, Karim Benzema on 90, and Raul Gonzalez, who scored 71 during his time at Madrid.
At just 26, Mbappe’s rise has been strikingly fast. Many of the names above him reached similar tallies later in their careers, underlining the Paris-born striker’s extraordinary pace in front of goal.
The Santiago Bernabeu faithful have already embraced him as the heir to the club’s great attacking icons, and milestones like this only fuel the belief that he could one day threaten the very top of the list.
Mbappe’s brace overshadowed the contributions of Madrid’s youngsters, but manager Xabi Alonso was quick to highlight the progress of Arda Güler and Franco Mastantuono.
“Arda started very well and then went through a phase where he dribbled too much and lost the ball,” Alonso told reporters.
“He is still developing. I’m also pleased with Franco. It will be similar to him. He will continue to improve because it is a big leap and he has to keep adapting. He is on the right track.”
