The Chief Imam of Owo and Chairman of the Ondo State League of Imams and Alfas, Alhaji Ahmad Oladoke Aladesawe, has passed away at the age of 91.
Naija News reports that his death was announced on Tuesday by a Muslim leader in Owo, Alhaji Kamorudeen Ishola, who said the cleric died on Monday evening at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ondo State.
Ishola described the late Imam as a respected Islamic scholar and community leader who dedicated his life to the growth of Islam in Nigeria.
He disclosed that the late scholar would be laid to rest in Owo, his hometown in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, by 2pm on Tuesday in accordance with Islamic rites.
The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Ondo State chapter, expressed condolences to the deceased’s family, the Owo Muslim community, and the nation at large.
In a statement, the State Missioner of NACOMYO, Alhaji Abdulwaasii Yusuf, said the cleric’s passing was a monumental loss.
“Baba is one number support pillar of NACOMYO and a greatest Islamic scholars ever lived in this part of the world especially Ondo State. May Allah accept his good deeds, forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus. Aameen,” Yusuf said.
Until his death, Sheikh Aladesawe also served as the Secretary-General of Imams and Alfas in South-West, Edo and Delta States.
He was widely admired for his contributions to the growth of Islam and for his peace-building efforts across Ondo State and beyond.
