Detectives from the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) have detained nine persons in connection with the alleged murder of former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Bamidele Akingboye.
Naija News understands that those in custody include five immediate family members of the deceased and four domestic staff, who are currently being interrogated.
Police sources told Vanguard that the decision to invite the family members and aides for questioning was based on what they described as “scientific investigations.”
News of Akingboye’s death broke on September 3, 2025, after his body was discovered in the backyard of his Lagos residence under unclear circumstances.
The incident sparked shock within political circles, with many demanding a thorough investigation into the suspicious death of the politician, who once contested for the governorship of Ondo State under the SDP.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olorundare Moshood, had earlier assured that the command would get to the root of the matter.
Naija News reports that Akingboye contested against the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and 12 other candidates in last year’s election.
Until his death, Akingboye was the Chief Executive Officer of Benshore Maritime and Clog Oil Systems, as well as the President of WeAfrica Group.
He also held the traditional title of Olowomeye I of Ikaleland.
