Former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has taken a swipe at Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe, claiming the French forward lacks a private life and needs to reconnect with the world outside football.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, the 38-year-old Frenchman said Kylian Mbappe’s lifestyle feels too controlled and distant.
“A license is a form of independence, to go out without having to be accountable,” Nasri explained. “That means Mbappe has no private life, not even with his family. When he has to do something, he has to hire a driver. He can go out on the street. There are people who’ll stop him and take pictures with him. But that’s the price of fame. You’ve to do that [go out on the street] to be connected to real life.”
Mbappe sealed his move to Real Madrid last year as a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, where he had spent seven successful seasons. His every move in Spain has since been under intense media spotlight, reinforcing debates about how big football stars balance fame with privacy.
Meanwhile, as the new Champions League season kicks off tonight, former Premier League stalwarts Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards have revealed their picks for the coveted trophy.
“My favourite for the Champions League is Barcelona. I was really impressed with their performances last season. I think they will go far again,” Carragher said. “I think Liverpool will also make it to the final. It will be a fantastic final: Barcelona-Liverpool.”
Richards backed Carragher’s call, adding simply: “I’m also choosing Barcelona.”
