A former governorship candidate in Cross River State on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Effiong Nyong, has accused the governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, of teaming up with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to subvert the electoral process that brought him to power.
He argued that Fubara deserves the crisis and troubles that ensued.
Nyong stated this while reacting to the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State and the possible return of Fubara on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
Speaking with Daily Post, he alleged that during the six-month emergency rule headed by a former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas, governance in Rivers State had been badly disrupted.
He alleged that funds were appropriated and spent without due process, while local government elections were conducted under the sole authority of the administrator without legislative backing.
Nyong warned that Rivers State should not be reduced to Wike’s personal estate.
“Wike cannot and should not be allowed to do as he likes in Rivers, which unfortunately he had been doing with the alleged backing of the President,” Nyong said.
The ADC chieftain insisted that the fate of Fubara or his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was immaterial, since “the entire political party system in Rivers State has been largely compromised and usurped with high-level impunity.”
He maintained that the only way out for Rivers people and Nigerians was to reject the system at the ballot, stressing that the credibility of elections in the state remained questionable.
