Speaking at the pre-departure orientation programme for intending Christian pilgrims from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mahmoud urged pilgrims to focus on prayer, spiritual growth and Nigeria’s peace and development during the pilgrimage.
Describing pilgrimage as a spiritually enriching experience that offers immeasurable blessings, she acknowledged the recent geopolitical challenges in the Middle East, which caused delays to the pilgrimage.
The Minister emphasised the FCT Administration’s dedication to protecting and safeguarding the welfare of pilgrims, reaffirming the government’s commitment under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike.
“For those contemplating absconding or engaging in activities harmful to our country’s image, I advise you to reconsider.
“The Federal Government has put proactive measures in place to counter such efforts,” Mahmoud warned.
She stressed the consequences for those who abscond, warning, “Pilgrims’ sponsors will be arrested and jailed if their pilgrims abscond.”
Mahmoud also commended the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) for its pivotal role in coordinating pilgrimages nationwide and pledged continued cooperation between the FCT Administration and the NCPC to ensure successful pilgrimages and the spiritual wellbeing of all participants.
