The Federal Government, through the Department of State Services (DSS), has filed multiple charges against nine suspects accused of complicity in the recent deadly attacks in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, and parts of Plateau State.
Naija News understands that the attacks reportedly left over 40 persons dead, several others injured, and hundreds displaced.
According to a charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/449/2025, filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja and endorsed by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Muhammad Abubakar, the June 13, 2025, attacks on Abinsi and Yelwata villages were allegedly carried out by Haruna Adamu and Muhammad Abdullahi of Awe LGA, Nasarawa State, in connivance with others at large.
Other suspects listed in the charge include Musa Beniyon, Bako Malowa, Ibrahim Tunga, Asara Ahnadu, Legu Musa, Adamu Yale, Boddi Ayuba and Pyeure Damina.
They were accused of offences punishable under sections 12 and 29 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.
In another case, two suspects, Terkende Ashuwa and Amos Alede, both from Guma LGA, were charged with three counts, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/448/2025.
The DSS alleged that they attended a meeting that led to reprisal attacks in Abinsi and Yelwata, destroying private property, including the loss of 12 cattle in Ukpam village.
The duo were further accused of conspiring with others at large during a July 2025 meeting in Daudu town to carry out terrorist acts, and of receiving AK-47 rifles and locally made guns from one Alhaji Uba to support terrorism.
Woman Accused Of Supplying Ammunition To Bandits
A 32-year-old woman, Halima Haliru Umar of Faskari LGA, Katsina State, was also slammed with a four-count charge of terrorism.
She was accused of transporting 302 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition to bandits in July 2025 and of concealing information about a suspected gun runner, Alhaji Sani.
The DSS said her actions contravened sections 6 and 13 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.
Separately, a 75-year-old man, Nanbol Tali, and Timnan Manjo, were charged with four counts of unlawful dealing in arms. They allegedly bought and sold two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles for ₦3m and purchased three long-range revolvers at ₦60,000 each for resale to bandits.
One Danjuma Antu of Jos North LGA, Plateau State, was also charged with five counts of unlawful possession of two locally fabricated pistols capable of discharging 9mm ammunition.
In another case, a six-count charge was entered against Silas Iduh Oloche of Agatu LGA, Benue State, for unlawful possession of 18 grenades and 683 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition. He was arrested on August 2, 2025.
All charges, covering terrorism and unlawful possession of arms, have been filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
However, no date has yet been fixed for the arraignment of the defendants.
