As Nigeria gears up for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, midfielder Alex Iwobi has singled out Felix Agu and Benjamin Fredrick for praise.
The Super Eagles will face Rwanda at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, before taking on South Africa next Tuesday, with both games vital for their qualification hopes.
Iwobi, who plays his club football for Fulham, said he was impressed with the two young players after watching them in training under coach Eric Chelle.
“We had a light training session, and I got to see their [Fredrick and Agu] qualities, but the manager [Eric Chelle] knows, but there is a reason why they are here to represent Nigeria,” Iwobi told Football Fans Tribe.
“My job is to make Fredrick and Agu feel welcome and at home. Give them the confidence to come and showcase their talent [for the Super Eagles].”
Meanwhile, Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem has promised nothing short of victory over Rwanda and South Africa.
“The only mindset we have is the winning mentality. It’s not going to be easy, two difficult games, but we are Nigerians, we know the spirit that we have,” the defender said in an interview with Victor Modo.
“We never back down, we go for it and I believe Nigerians should expect a team that is going to go all out to win the game. We are going to give everything. We are here right now to perform and get six points.”
