Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Friday presided over a marathon meeting of the State Executive Council, during which key state policies were reviewed and fresh implementation directives were handed to ministries and agencies.
The meeting, which stretched late into the night at the Government House, Osogbo, appraised developments across sectors and noted what the governor described as “a very high job performance rating” by citizens.
“We must congratulate ourselves on the series of endorsements and approval rallies and declarations from various interest groups in the state. Our job performance rating is at a very high level and our government is rated very high by all categories of Osun people,” Adeleke told his cabinet.
The governor assured that ongoing road and infrastructure projects would be delivered on schedule, listing the Ilesa dualisation, the Ile-Ife flyover, the Oke Fia/Lameco flyovers, and the Iwo dualisation as priorities.
On the newly passed State Electricity Market law, Adeleke directed the Commissioner for Energy to develop an implementation plan and seek assistance from the National Electricity Regulatory Commission.
The governor tasked the Ministry of Science and Innovation to fast-track the rollout of the State ICT policy and Tech Innovation policy, and to produce a roadmap for deploying Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain technology.
While commending the launch of the Imole Wifi Initiative, he urged the ministry to position Osun as a tech-driven state.
For agriculture, Adeleke ordered the immediate rollout of the Statewide Youth Agropreneurship Project, launched earlier in Oriade, to all local government areas.
On sports, he called for urgent work on bills establishing the Osun Sports Commission, the Police Trust Fund, and the Osun Sports Development Fund, urging closer collaboration with the House of Assembly.
Addressing the local government crisis, Adeleke asked ALGON members to prepare developmental documents aligned with the state agenda. He tasked the Chief of Staff and the Ministry of Budget to drive the initiative.
He further ordered a review of the Imole Youth Corps to ensure quality delivery of the scheme’s goals.
The governor also hailed Osun’s gains in the climate change sector, saying ongoing initiatives were attracting attention from other states, the Federal Government, and international donor agencies.
“Our ultimate goal is to generate grants and donor support from several willing groups,” he said.
Adeleke emphasised the need to gather credible governance data across sectors ahead of the election season.
“As we move towards the election period, we need statistics and data on our performance across various sectors of the state economy. We should start to generate our governance data. The agency in charge of statistics must work in line with modern best practices,” he said.
After extensive deliberations, the council set up a high-powered committee to address manpower shortages in health and education, approved the elevation of minor chiefs to Part II Chiefs and ratified the appointment of Prince Adeleke Saheed Adeyemi as the Olokusa of Okusa in Egbedore Local Government.
The meeting was formally concluded with the adoption of the governor’s address as the council’s resolutions.
