The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that he has approved all the demands of the resident doctors in the FCT, which prompted their recent strike action.
Speaking on Friday during the flag off of the construction of the Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring III on Shehu Yar’Adua Way, by Life Camp in Abuja, Wike directed the FCT acting Head of Service and the Senior Special Adviser on administration, Samuel Atang, to act accordingly to ensure implementation.
Naija News reports that the Minister also commended the Doctors for calling off the strike, saying it is in the interest of patients and the territory.
“I must commend the resident doctors for calling off the strike, the administration is happy with their understanding. I have signed all the doctors’ requests on my table today,” Wike said.
It would be recalled that the doctors had embarked on a strike since September 15, 2025, to press home their demands after months of unresolved negotiations with the FCTA.
The strike, which took effect from 8 am on Monday, September 15, 2025, follows the expiration of a seven-day warning strike.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, ARD-FCTA President, Dr. George Ebong, said the action was not targeted at the minister personally but against what he described as a “failed health system” in the nation’s capital.
Ebong listed some of the grievances, including the non-payment of 26 members despite seven months of dialogue, unexplained salary deductions, and stagnated promotions since 2023.
He also lamented the poor state of facilities in FCTA hospitals.
Earlier, the Association of Resident Doctors of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCT) announced that it had suspended its indefinite strike, giving patients in Abuja and its environs some relief after days of disruption in medical services.
The President of ARD-FCT, Dr George Ebong, confirmed the suspension on Friday, noting that doctors will return to work on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 8 a.m.
He explained that the decision came after the intervention of the Senate Committee on Federal Territory Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, as well as out of respect for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
