Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, has unveiled his final 23-man squad for September’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and South Africa.
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman all made the cut.
The Super Eagles, chasing a return to the biggest stage in world football, will host Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, September 6, before heading to Bloemfontein for a showdown with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana three days later.
Chelle has kept faith with several of his trusted regulars, including goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali who is suspected to be unfit, Fulham defender Calvin Bassey, Nottingham Forest full-back Ola Aina, and midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.
Everton’s Alex Iwobi, Club Brugge’s Raphael Onyedika, and Brentford’s Frank Onyeka also feature in midfield, while Samuel Chukwueze, Simon Moses, and Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers strengthen the attack.
There are also notable returns and fresh faces. Greece-based goalkeeper Adeleye Adebayo earns a recall, while Werder Bremen’s Felix Agu and Belgian defender Benjamin Fredericks, both standout performers at the recent Unity Cup, have been rewarded with places.
Forward Tolu Arokodare of KRC Genk and Getafe’s Christantus Uche, who impressed in June’s friendly against Russia, have also been included.
