Nigerian singer Oluwajuwonlo Iledare, also known as Jaywon, has raised concern over rising violence in his hometown in Kogi State.
Naija News reports that the singer on his Instagram story revealed that the Okun area has been facing repeated attacks that have claimed the lives of policemen and local vigilantes, leaving residents in fear.
The ‘This Year’ crooner shared a video showing scenes from the community, where he explained that insecurity has persisted for weeks without a clear response from authorities.
According to him, several law enforcement officers and community guards were killed during the recent attacks, yet there has been no official statement from security agencies.
Jaywon appealed to President Bola Tinubu and other leaders to step in and provide urgent help to end the killings.
He said: “How can Fulani men be armed to “protect” the people against the same Fulani herdsmen who are killing and kidnapping them? This is nothing but backwardness and a failure of leadership.
“This is not just Egbe’s pain, it’s Okun land’s pain, it’s Nigeria’s shame. Policemen and vigilantes killed, yet silence from those in power. The people have taken to the streets, demanding answers! #JusticeForOkun #EndInsecurity.
“THREE POLICE OFFICERS AND TWO VIGILANTES WERE MURDERED IN YAGBA, YET NEARLY 48 HOURS LATER, THE @NIGERIANPOLICEFORCE AND THE IGP HAVE SAID NOTHING. IF THOSE IN UNIFORM ARE NOT SAFE, WHAT HOPE IS LEFT FOR THE ORDINARY MAN? THIS SILENCE IS COMPLICITY.
“KOGI IS BLEEDING. AND ALL WE SEE IS CAMOUFLAGE. MR. PRESIDENT @OFFICIALABAT, PLEASE DO NOT ABANDON US. WE DESERVE JUSTICE AND PROTECTION.”
Residents of Okun and surrounding areas have reportedly taken to the streets, demanding protection and justice for those killed.
