Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s government of Kano State has declared tomorrow, Friday, September 12, 2025, equivalent to the 19th of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447 AH, a public holiday to mark this year’s Maulud Nabiyy.
Naija News reports that the holiday is meant for Muslims to commemorate the birth of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, called on residents to celebrate peacefully and uphold the Prophet’s teachings.
“The State Government urges residents to take advantage of this blessed occasion to offer special prayers for peace, prosperity, and the overall progress of Kano State and Nigeria at large,” the statement noted.
The government further encouraged citizens to reflect on the values of unity, tolerance, and respect for lawful authority during the celebration.
Maulud is an annual religious observance across the world in which Muslim faithful mark the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.
Across different sects, the day is commemorated with sermons, prayers, and community gatherings as a way of showing love for the Prophet and reflecting on his teachings.
Kano, one of the largest predominantly Muslim states in Nigeria, has historically witnessed large gatherings during Maulud, with emphasis on prayers for peace and development.
