Olubadan-designate and former Oyo State governor, Rashidi Ladoja, has pledged to return to the classroom after his coronation, promising to teach Mathematics and Physics to students of his alma mater, Ibadan Boys’ High School.
Naija News reports that Ladoja, who once served as a teacher in the school before venturing into politics, made the vow on Monday when the principal, Rasheed Fasasi, led a delegation of the school’s management team on a courtesy visit to his Bodija residence.
He said, “Beyond being an alumnus of the school, I was also a former teacher here, where I taught Mathematics and Physics. So, during my visit after the coronation, I will engage the students in classwork.”
Ladoja further stated that the visit would provide an opportunity to inspire a new generation of learners while reconnecting with his academic roots.
Though past Olubadans had links with education, none is known to have returned to classroom teaching after ascending the throne.
Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade I (2007–2016) began his career as a teacher in the 1930s before joining the colonial army and later politics.
Oba Moshood Lekan Balogun, the 42nd Olubadan, worked as a university lecturer before his political journey.
Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Ladoja’s immediate predecessor, taught briefly in a primary school before moving into technical studies.
Unlike them, Ladoja has vowed to step back into the classroom after coronation actively.
Earlier, Principal Fasasi commended the monarch-in-waiting, saying his gesture would rekindle pride and inspire students.
He congratulated Ladoja on his forthcoming coronation and wished him a peaceful reign.
Ladoja, who emerged as Olubadan-designate following the death of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin in July, is set to become the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland under the city’s merit-based succession system.
