Naija News understands that the decision was made following an emergency meeting of the Council of Chiefs and Elders, and was formalised in a communique issued by the Ebem Ujurueze Palace, Ekeleugo Ebem.
In a communiqué recently signed and issued by the paramount ruler of Ebem Ohafia, Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, and other community leaders, it was stated that the ban was an outright measure aimed at addressing growing safety concerns.
In addition to the cooking gas ban, the community leaders condemned various social vices, including cultism, gangsterism, and drug abuse.
These activities were deemed unacceptable, and the leaders have declared them illegal in the community with immediate effect.
The leaders urged parents and guardians to keep a close watch on their children and wards. They also directed landlords whose properties were being used for these illicit activities to evict the offenders or face disciplinary actions.
