President Donald Trump has directed that all American flags across the United States be flown at half-mast in honour of Charlie Kirk.
According to the Associated Press, the conservative activist was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University.
Naija News reports that Kirk, 31, was addressing students during the first stop of his campus tour when he was struck in the neck by a bullet.
Videos from the scene captured the moment of the attack, showing panic as spectators screamed and fled.
He was rushed to the hospital but later died.
The activist, who co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012 at just 18, became one of Trump’s closest allies and a leading voice for conservative youth engagement.
His organization played a key role in rallying young voters during Trump’s campaigns.
Kirk married Erika Frantzve, a Christian podcaster and former Miss Arizona USA, in 2021.
They have two children together.
President Trump described Kirk’s death as a painful loss to the nation, praising his role in shaping youth politics and extending condolences to his wife, children, and family.
He wrote on Truth Social: “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the shooting, but no suspect has been arrested so far.
