The Katsina State Government has approved ₦20 million for each of the state’s 34 local government areas to renovate graveyards across their domains.
Naija News reports that Governor Dikko Radda announced the initiative on Thursday while receiving royal fathers from the Katsina and Daura Emirates at Government House, Katsina.
‘A Service to People and to Allah’
The governor described the project as both a social service and a spiritual duty. “This is a service to our people and also a way of seeking Allah’s blessings for Katsina State,” Radda said.
Radda also unveiled a new welfare package for traditional rulers and religious leaders, noting that the reforms had been backed by a law recently passed by the State House of Assembly.
“All District Heads will now earn salaries not less than Grade Level 16,” he said.
He added that:
- 6,652 Ward Heads across the state will receive monthly allowances.
- Over 3,000 Imams and their deputies in Friday Mosques will be supported with stipends.
- Izala and Darika Mosque sweepers in each of the 34 LGAs will also be placed on allowances.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s determination to tackle insecurity, which he described as the foremost priority of his government.
According to him, over 1,500 youths have so far been trained and equipped with uniforms, life jackets, and operational tools to support ongoing security operations in troubled areas.
“Security is a collective responsibility. We must unite to protect our people. Citizens must first help themselves before government intervention can yield lasting results,” Radda urged.
Earlier, the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruq-Umar, represented by the District Head of Baure, reaffirmed the emirate’s solidarity with the governor, particularly after his recent car accident in Daura.
Also speaking was the Wazirin Katsina, Senator Ibrahim Ida, who represented the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, commending Governor Radda for repositioning the emirates.
He noted that the reforms had restored dignity to traditional institutions and strengthened their role in governance and community development.
“The Emirate Council will continue to support the government through prayers and cooperation to promote peace, unity, and prosperity across the state,” Ida said.
