Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has claimed that his successor, Uba Sani, is responsible for the attack on him and other opposition figures in the state.
Naija News reports that chaos erupted at the official inauguration of a transition committee jointly set up by opposition parties in Kaduna State on Saturday, with suspected political thugs invading the event.
El-Rufai and other participants were attacked and their properties vandalised.
Addressing the matter during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, El-Rufai stated that he has evidence indicating that the state governor orchestrated the attack and vowed to submit it to the Inspector General of Police.
He said, “I have evidence; Kaduna State Governor is behind Saturday’s attacks. I will submit evidence to the IGP and other authorities if they care to investigate.”
He further lamented that “the policing system has collapsed in Nigeria,” alleging that police operatives were watching when the opposition figures came under attack.
Meanwhile, El-Rufai has stated that he has no interest in contesting for any political office.
According to El-Rufai, his renewed involvement in politics is driven only by the need to support credible leadership at the state and national levels.
He lamented that Nigerians can see the failures of the incumbent government without further explanation.
El-Rufai spoke in Kaduna on Wednesday while receiving a group of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) youths who defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under the leadership of Aliyu Bello.
“This is a government that does nothing but lie every day. Everyone’s conscience tells them the truth. I am not contesting for anything; I don’t want to go to the Senate. I am not contesting for any position. That is why I am calling on you: let us join hands and ensure we remove the oppressors,” he added.
He said his initial plan after leaving office was to retire completely from partisan politics, but recent developments had compelled him to return, albeit without personal ambition.
