Good morning Nigeria. Welcome to the Naija News roundup of top newspaper headlines in Nigeria for today, Thursday, 11th September, 2025
1. Tinubu Orders Fresh Measures To Crash Soaring Food Prices
President Bola Tinubu has directed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee on food security to fast-track measures aimed at reducing the high cost of food across the country.
Naija News reports that the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, confirmed the President’s directive in Abuja on Wednesday at a capacity-building workshop for Senate correspondents.
According to Abdullahi, the President’s new directive centres on ensuring the smooth and secure transportation of farm produce across the country to cut down logistics costs, which have been a major driver of food inflation.
Nigeria has been battling rising food insecurity since the removal of fuel subsidy in May 2023, coupled with insecurity on highways and high transport costs that have disrupted the flow of goods from farms to markets.
Abdullahi said the administration’s strategy goes beyond simply increasing food availability to ensuring affordability, accessibility, and proper nutrition for Nigerians.
2. What Tinubu Discussed With President Macron In France

Naija News reports that Tinubu visited Macron as part of activities during his working vacation.
In a post via his 𝕏 handle, Tinubu stated that the duo reviewed key areas of cooperation between Nigeria and France.
According to him, they also agreed to deepen their partnership for mutual prosperity and global stability.

3. ‘You Stood On The Right Side Of History’ – ADC Commends INEC For Recognizing David Mark, Aregbesola As New Party Leaders
The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdulllahi, has commended the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the party’s new leadership.
Abdullahi, in a post via his 𝕏 account, congratulated all members of the ADC and lovers of democracy on the development.
He added that INEC and its chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, did the right thing and have stood on the right side of history in defence of democracy in Nigeria.
As earlier reported by Naija News, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially acknowledged David Mark as the new National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as the National Secretary.
This comes after weeks of controversy surrounding the leadership of the coalition-led ADC following the stepping down of Ralph Nwosu.
4. FG Gazettes New Tax Reform Laws
The Federal Government has officially published Nigeria’s new tax reform laws in the government gazette, signalling what it described as a historic overhaul of the nation’s fiscal framework.
Naija News reports that the reforms, which were signed into law by President Bola Tinubu on June 26, 2025, introduce new structures for taxation, administration, and revenue collection.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Personal Assistant on Special Duties to the President, Kamorudeen Yusuf, the new fiscal regime is anchored on four legislations:
Nigeria Tax Act (NTA), 2025
Nigeria Tax Administration Act (NTAA), 2025
Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act (NRSEA), 2025
Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act (JRBEA), 2025
“These reforms aim to simplify Nigeria’s tax system, support small businesses, attract investment, and strengthen fiscal stability, aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to diversify revenue away from oil,” the statement said.
5. INEC Reveals Why Politicians Can’t Be Sanctioned For Early Campaigns
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed frustration over its inability to sanction politicians and parties engaging in early campaigns ahead of the 2027 general election, citing gaps in the law.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Wednesday at a stakeholders’ roundtable in Abuja, which examined “The Challenges of Premature Political Campaigns.”
Yakubu explained that while Section 94(2) of the Electoral Act 2022 prescribes mild sanctions on parties or individuals who campaign 24 hours before polling day, there are no penalties for campaigns that begin earlier than the 150-day window stipulated by law.
He stressed that Section 94(1) clearly prohibits campaigns earlier than 150 days before an election and mandates they end 24 hours before polling, noting the intent is to prioritise governance over endless politicking.
Yakubu lamented that political parties and their supporters have turned Nigeria into a country in constant campaign mode.
He reiterated that INEC would continue to push for reforms that close legal loopholes and ensure early campaigns attract meaningful sanctions.
6. National Grid Collapse: Power Restoration In Progress After Blackout
Restoration efforts have begun following the collapse of Nigeria’s national power grid on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, which plunged many parts of the country into darkness.
Naija News reports that the grid collapsed at about 11:30 am on Wednesday, disrupting supply to several distribution companies (DisCos) across the federation.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), in a public notice shared on its 𝕏 handle, confirmed the incident, stating that the outage was caused by a loss of supply from the national grid.
Hours later, the Nigerian National Grid announced that restoration had commenced.
According to updates on its 𝕏 page, 495 megawatts had been restored to some DisCos as of Wednesday afternoon.

Franklin explained that his father was alive but absent, which left his mother to shoulder the responsibility of caring for him.
He described her as hardworking and resilient, saying that raising a child as a single parent came with many difficulties.
The actor stressed that boys need father figures in their lives, even if it is through a relative who can play that role.
