Former France international Wissam Ben Yedder has been found guilty of psychological violence against his estranged wife and ordered to pay a fine of €90,000.
The verdict was delivered on Wednesday in France, though, Wissam Ben Yedder, 35, who once starred for Monaco and Sevilla, was not present in court. His lawyer, Marie Roumiantseva, confirmed that Ben Yedder intends to appeal the ruling.
According to the judgment, the fine includes €60,000 to be split evenly between damages to his wife and legal costs. Note that the couple, who are currently in the process of divorcing, have been locked in a bitter dispute.
The case is yet another legal setback for the former Monaco captain, who has faced a string of controversies in recent years. In November 2024, he received a suspended two-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting a woman just two months earlier. Before that, in 2023, a Spanish court handed him a six-month suspended sentence for tax fraud committed during his time at Sevilla between 2016 and 2019.
Ben Yedder is also still under investigation, along with his brother Sabri, over allegations of raping two women in 2023, claims both men strongly deny.
In the psychological violence trial, prosecutors had initially sought an eight-month suspended sentence and a €10,000 fine, but the court opted instead for a much stiffer financial penalty.
Once regarded as one of Ligue 1’s most prolific strikers, Ben Yedder left Monaco earlier this year and briefly turned out for Iranian side Sepahan. He remains without a club, with his playing career now overshadowed by ongoing legal troubles.
